Specs at a Glance

The Ford F-150 is a sharper-looking and more innovative truck than ever in 2021, with a host of updates and improvements. Many changes are in store for the ever-popular F-150 this year, including an expanded list of engines that now includes a hybrid powertrain with impressive power output and the highest torque rating available for the F-150 to date. While any trim level of the truck is a good choice, two especially notable trim levels are the XL and the Lariat. The XL, which is the base trim of the F-150, gets many of the truck's latest updates. The Lariat, a mid-level F-150 trim, receives a standard 12-inch touchscreen, a new offering for the 2021 Ford F-150. More safety aids are added on both trim levels.

Gasoline-powered, diesel and hybrid powertrains are all optional for the F-150 this year. The XL and Lariat are driven by a 3.3L V6 gasoline engine with a peak power rating of nearly 300 HP. The base engine's torque output is just under 270 LB-FT. A turbo 2.7L gasoline engine is also available with six cylinders. The second engine cranks out 325 HP, and its torque jumps to 400 LB-FT. A third gasoline V8 engine is optional for either trim with a power output that increases to 400 HP and increases maximum torque to 410 LB-FT. The most powerful gasoline engine reaches 400 HP and 500 LB-FT for torque. A fuel-efficient but equally powerful diesel engine is optional with up to 250 HP in power output and 440 LB-FT in torque. A hybrid powertrain using a battery pack, electric motor, and 3.5L V6 engine cranks out 430 HP. A 10-speed transmission is standard, and four-wheel drive is optional.

The Ford F-150 gets a bolder front end this year with chrome accents. Both trims have LED lighting, and the Lariat adds LED lights in the truck bed. The Lariat trim has alloy wheels and fog lights as well. Multiple truck beds are available for either F-150 trim.

To start, the XL has an eight-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Power windows are standard with the SuperCrew cab. The Lariat has a new 12-inch touchscreen and leather upholstery, along with more standard safety aids, including blind-spot monitoring.
