What's New for the 2018 Ford Transit?

The 2018 Ford Transit has gotten a few noticeable upgrades from earlier editions. Most importantly, a rear view camera has been added to medium roof and high roof models, which is sure to making backing up much safer and easier. There are also a number of new optional features that can be added to the 2018 Transit. These include heavy duty flooring, heated mirrors with embedded turn signals, heavy duty scuff plates, and a button-activated parking brake. The 2018 Transit Connect, on the other hand, has remained largely unchanged from 2017.

Powerful Work Van Features

The 2018 Ford Transit is offered in three different trim styles: Cargo Van, Passenger Wagon XL, and Passenger Wagon XLT. For buyers interested in plenty of technological features, the XL or XLT will be the best option. They include Bluetooth connectivity by default, but they also offer an optional 6.5-inch console touchscreen, USB connectivity, and a built-in navigation system.

However, the customization choices don't end there. For passenger versions of the Transit, there are four seating options available: 8, 10, 12, or 15. There are also multiple roof heights to choose from. These include low at 83 inches, medium at 100 inches, and high at 110 inches. Dual sliding side doors are available with both the medium or high roof option.

The Transit Connect also comes in three trim levels: XL, XLT, and Titanium. At the XL level, standard features include 16-inch steel wheels, cruise control, keyless entry, and rear doors with 180-degree range. The XL passenger model also includes a rear view camera, USB connectivity, Ford SYNC infotainment, and a 4.2-inch console touchscreen.

In addition to these standard features, the Transit Connect XLT also includes a folding front passenger seat, automatic headlights, corner fog lights, and rear parking sensors.

There are several feature upgrades included with the Transit Connect Titanium. These include 16-inch alloy wheels, a SYNC 3 infotainment system, and a 6.5-inch console touchscreen. Additional features for this top-of-the-line trim include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, leather upholstery, a built-in navigation system, and heated front seats. It should be noted that the Transit Connect Titanium is only available in a passenger model.

Engine, Transmission & MPG Specs

2018 Ford TransitYou have three engine options to choose from with the 2018 Ford Transit. The base option is a 3.7-liter V6 engine capable of 275 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This can be upgraded to a 3.5-liter V6 Ecoboost engine with 310 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque or a 3.2-liter turbo-diesel engine with 185 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Fuel efficiency for the base engine is 14 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway. This increases to 15 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway for the 3.5-liter engine. The turbo-diesel engine did not receive a fuel rating.

Engine options for the Transit Connect are a bit more limited. It is only available with a 2.5-liter engine with six-speed automatic transmission. It's capable of 169 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy for the passenger van is 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, while the cargo version comes in at 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

Modern Safety Technology

2018 Ford TransitSafety features for the 2018 Ford Transit include airbags, stability control, a rear view camera, and anti-lock brakes. Optional safety upgrades are available and include lane departure and rear parking sensors.

For the Transit Connect, standard safety features include stability control, airbags, anti-lock brakes, and tire pressure monitors. At the XLT trim level, blind spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alerts are available as well.
