2017 Ford Transit Overview

The 2017 Ford Transit in Colma is designed to suit your business needs. It's offered in three different models: Transit (cargo van), Transit Wagon (passenger van) and Transit Connect (compact van). Updated for the new model year, each van is equipped with fresh features to better accommodate owners.

The cargo van and passenger van each come with a standard lighting package this year. They also get new heated seating and retractable running board options. The Transit Connect adds Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment system, standard cruise control and rear parking sensors on wagon models.

Models, Trims & Vehicle Highlights

The Transit cargo van and passenger van are available in standard and long wheelbases and three roof heights: low, medium and high. An extended-length body is also offered on both models. Unlike the cargo van, which is available in one trim, the Transit Wagon can be had in XL or XLT trims.

Fit for your cargo needs, the 2017 Ford Transit in Colma can successfully haul 4-by-8-foot plywood sheets or 14-foot piping in extended-length versions. High-roof models can also accommodate adults reaching 6'5". Feature-wise, the cargo van comes with a two-speaker stereo system, tie-down loops, remote locking, power accessories, vinyl flooring and a hinged passenger door.

Seating up to 15 passengers, depending which model you choose, the Transit Wagon is equipped with vinyl front seats, a six-speaker system, A/C and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Select models also feature either 60/40-split passenger-side doors or a sliding passenger door.

Transit Connect models may be small, but they offer up to 103.9 cubic feet of cargo room on short-wheelbase models and 104.2 cubic feet of space on long-wheelbase models. They also come with overhead shelves, a fold-down passenger seat, tie-down hooks, keyless entry and power locks.

Engine Offerings

A 3.7L V6, delivering 275 hp and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, is fitted on the Transit and Transit Wagon. Buyers can opt for a turbo 3.2L diesel, generating 185 hp and 350 lb.-ft. of torque, or a turbo 3.5L V6, offering 310 hp and 400 lb.-ft. of torque.

Payload capacities for these models can reach up to 4,560 pounds; towing maxes out at 7,500 pounds.

Transit Connect is outfitted with a 2.5L four-cylinder, producing 169 hp and 171 lb.-ft. of torque. A 2,000-pound towing capacity is achieved when the van is properly equipped.

All models are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Safety First

Airbags, stability control and antilock brakes come standard across the roster. A rearview camera, noted in various 2017 Ford Transit reviews, is also standard on Transit and Transit Wagon, while rear parking sensors and lane departure warning are optional. The Connect adds standard hill-start assist and is available with a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring.
