2017 Ford Escape Review: What's Changed This Year?

The 2017 Ford Escape will do much more than simply get you from point A to point B. With smart safety technologies, cutting-edge infotainment features and ample power, 2017 Ford Escape reviews call it a top choice in the compact crossover segment. This year, the SUV receives a number of changes that make it an even more appealing option, including exterior and interior design revisions, two available new engines, added safety technologies and a new Sport Appearance Package.

A few of the 2017 Escape's available exterior colors include Canyon Ridge, Shadow Black, Lightning Blue, Oxford White, Ruby Red Metallic and White Gold. Interior colors include Charcoal Black and Medium Light Stone.

Ford Escape Trims & Cabin Features

The 2017 Ford Escape in Surprise is offered in S, SE and Titanium trims, three distinct grades that accommodate a variety of needs and budgets. The base trim level is well-equipped, offering standard cruise control, a rearview camera, Bluetooth and SYNC with AppLink for smartphone users. All models also come with a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel as well as a height-adjustable driver seat, so that you can find your perfect position.

The SE adds a turbo engine, paddle shifters and alloy wheels; plus it's available with Technology, Cold Weather and Leather Comfort Packages. The top-of-the-line Escape Titanium comes standard with the contents of these packages, as well as added features like ambient interior lighting and an auto dimming rearview mirror.

Ford Escape Engines & MPG Ratings

The Escape S carries on with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, while the SE and Titanium gain a new turbocharged 1.5-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with efficiency-boosting Auto Start/Stop technology. In addition, the Escape SE and Titanium have a new engine option, a twin-scroll turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, which delivers 245 hp and 275 lb.-ft. of torque. FWD is standard or you can select AWD on SE and Titanium grades.

The 2017 Ford Escape is a good option for Phoenix-area drivers who may have to drive long distances for work or leisure. The popular 1.5-liter EcoBoost achieves an EPA-estimated 23 city/30 highway with front-wheel drive, while the new 2.0-liter engine rates in at 22 city/29 hwy. The base engine also doesn't disappoint, offering 21 city/29 hwy. When properly equipped, Escape can tow up to 3,500 pounds.

Intelligent New Safety Technologies

The 2017 Ford Escape in Surprise is offered with several new safety technologies, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Warning and Brake Support, which automatically adjusts cruise control when sensors detect that you're coming up on a slow-moving car. Also newly available is a Driver Alert System that emits a warning signal when it detects that a driver might be drowsy. In addition, Ford Escape owners in the Phoenix area can select a new Lane-Keeping System option, which not only alerts drivers when they drift out of a lane, but also provides automatic steering assistance.
