How Much Power Can an EcoBoost Engine Make?

There isn’t one EcoBoost performance level. Ford uses the technology in everything from practical everyday vehicles to high-output trucks and performance models.
The 2026 Ford Mustang EcoBoost uses a 2.3L EcoBoost engine rated at 315 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft of torque when using 93-octane fuel. Ford lists an EPA-estimated 22 city/33 highway MPG for certain 2026 Mustang EcoBoost Fastback configurations. 
The 2026 Ford Ranger shows how the same basic technology can serve very different needs. Its 2.3L EcoBoost produces 270 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft of torque, while the available 2.7L EcoBoost produces 315 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. The Ranger Raptor’s 3.0L EcoBoost reaches 405 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. Properly configured 2.3L and 2.7L Ranger models can tow up to 7,500 pounds. 
Move up to the 2026 Ford F-150, and the available 3.5L EcoBoost V6 produces 400 horsepower and 500 lb.-ft of torque. When properly configured, Ford lists maximum available towing of 13,500 pounds with that engine. The F-150 Raptor’s High-Output 3.5L EcoBoost raises output to 450 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. 
For three-row SUV shoppers, the 2026 Ford Expedition uses a 3.5L EcoBoost V6. The standard-output version is rated at 400 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft of torque, while the High-Output version produces 440 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. Properly equipped Expedition configurations can tow up to 9,600 pounds. 
Those examples illustrate why the EcoBoost name covers such a broad range of vehicles: Ford can tune the basic concept for efficiency, everyday drivability, towing, or higher performance depending on the application.

Not necessarily.
Fuel recommendations vary by engine and vehicle. Some EcoBoost engines are designed to operate normally on regular unleaded fuel, although Ford may base advertised maximum horsepower and torque figures on premium fuel.
For example, Ford lists 87-octane as the minimum fuel for the 2026 Bronco’s 2.3L and 2.7L EcoBoost engines while recommending 91-octane or higher. The Bronco Raptor’s 3.0L EcoBoost calls for 91-octane or higher. Ford also states that published Bronco horsepower and torque ratings are based on premium fuel. 
The 2026 Mustang EcoBoost’s advertised 315 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft ratings are based on 93-octane fuel. 
For the specific Ford you’re considering, check the Owner’s Manual and Ford’s fuel recommendation rather than assuming every EcoBoost engine has the same requirement.
