Ford Mustang Mach-E EV of the Year

In 2021, Ford introduced a new car to its lineup called the Mustang Mach-E. In addition to simply being a new arrival for Ford, the Mach-E was also the newest car in the Mustang family in many years. The Mustang Mach-E has proven to be a great addition to the Mustang family for many reasons. The Mustang Mach-E is already an award-winning car that's received top honors and recognition from many respectable names in the auto industry. One of the Mustang's achievements is that it has earned the title of “EV of the Year” by Car and Driver. To earn this award, the Mustang met the qualifying criteria of providing exceptional value, a fun driving experience, and convincing auto enthusiasts to select an electric vehicle over a gasoline-based car for their next ride.

2021 Mustang Mach-E

The 2021 Mach-E hits all the high notes based on Car and Driver's evaluation criteria. One strength of the Mach-E, and a key criterion for Car and Driver, is that it offers an impressive and engaging drive. Power and performance features vary widely across the line, but even with the base Mach-E, there is no shortage of power. You have a choice between all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive on most models. The Mustang also offers either a standard-range or extended-range battery. With rear-wheel drive, base power output is just over 264 HP and more than 315 LB-FT in torque. The base trim gets 311 miles of range with all-wheel drive and 230 miles of range with rear-wheel drive. Moving up to the higher-end trims brings 290 HP at most for the next three trims and a maximum of 300 miles in range. The top trim, which is the GT, has a top range of 250 miles with all-wheel drive and 480 HP with the extended-range battery.

Along with providing power and fun drive, the Mustang Mach-E also stands out for value. Simulated leather upholstery is standard, and the Mustang has a digital instrument display, 15.5-inch touchscreen, integrated navigation, wireless phone charging, and wireless compatibility for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also has a DC fast-charging port.

EV of the Year

Car and Driver selected the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E as a leader in its class, and therefore the winner of this year's award since it is the most fun electric vehicle to drive. The Mach-E is also considered tops for value, and it offers consumers enough to sway their decision towards buying an electric rather than a gasoline-powered car.
